Every year, Highland Terrace PTA recognizes volunteers and staff members who go above and beyond for our students and school community with the Golden Acorn and Golden Apple Awards (aka GAGA).
Congratulations and a huge thank you to our 2023 winners! Here is just a selection of what others had to say about these amazing Orcas.
Golden Acorn Award for Outstanding Service
Julie Kruger – HTPTA Treasurer
“Julie has been an active and eager volunteer for years at HT. She has stepped into so many roles with grace and patience and a great sense of humor, always willing to help out, answer questions, and fill in for others when help is needed. She is a positive light within PTA and an absolute treasure! We will miss her greatly next year – thank you, Julie!”
Shama Moktan – Enrichment Coordinator
“Shama stepped up in a big way this year by taking on the role of Enrichment Coordinator. Shama put in an incredible amount of time and energy to bring back and organize all of the enrichment offered at HT since COVID had shut everything down. Shama is a wonderful asset to the HT PTA and we are lucky to have her!”
Golden Apple Award for Outstanding Educator
Brittany Wright – Fifth Grade Teacher
“Brittany teachers by example. She always has a listening ear for her students. She provides students with opportunities to excel beyond the standard expectations. Students feel safe and nurtured in her classroom. Students sings her praises loudly – she works hard and makes learning fun, she’s an amazing teacher, kind, encouraging, a kid at heart, caring, funny, super cool, helps us solve problems, makes almost every lesson fun so it is not boring, sees what students need as individuals and helps them where they are at, and always brings her best for her students. 5th graders agree: Brittany is one of the best teachers to ever live, and whoever knows her is one lucky person. Way to go, Brittany!”
Heidi Larsen – Library Technician
“Heidi is a burst of joy right in the middle of Highland Terrace. Heidi goes above and beyond every day to create a warm and welcoming place for students in the Library. She has such a kind and friendly way with the kids and they often seek her out for a smile or hug, making each student feel welcomed, safe, and valued, no matter how busy she may be or how many hats she may be wearing on any given day. She knows each child individually – their names, their interests – and thinks creatively to get students engaged with literacy. Students note that she is nice and always willing to help – the best support staff in the school. She supports every student, fellow teachers, staff, volunteers and families, building strong relationships and community in everything she does. She exudes warmth, compassion, and love, and is an outstanding and caring educator. We salute you, Heidi – you are the best!”
