Spring 2023 After School Programs

All classes are held at Highland Terrace. Bus transportation is not provided — students must be picked up after class.

Parent volunteers receive free tuition. One parent volunteer is necessary to run each class. Volunteer for a full session and receive free tuition for your student. Contact Shama at smoktan09@gmail.com if interested.


LEGO BRICKS FOR KIDZ: GALAXY FAR AWAY

Grades: K-2
Time: Thursdays 3:45-4:45pm
Dates: April 20 – June 15
Cost: $168

Join us on an adventure through space! Using LEGO® Bricks, we’ll build your favorite characters and motorized space ships from Star Wars®, as well as some real life astronaut training equipment, rockets, and space robots. We will also learn a bit about the science of the cosmos too. Come experience this stellar journey to a galaxy far away!

A MATTER OF PERSPECTIVE: ART THAT JUMPS OFF THE PAGE (FULL)

Grades: 3-5
Time: Wednesdays 2:00-3:50pm
Dates: April 12 – June 7
Cost: $140.70

Students explore different fun ways to make their art jump off the page using perspective to create depth and space. Perspective allows objects in 2D art — like drawings and paintings — to look like realistic 3D objects. Subjects include still life, portraits, architecture, and more. Students will take home a kit of art supplies at the end of the session.

LEGO ROBOTICS

Grades: 3-5
Time: Wednesdays 2:10-3:40pm
Dates: April 19 – June 14
Cost: $252

Build and design real, functioning robots! Each day, students receive a short lesson, followed by guided building time. We will construct robots that automatically react to their environment using motors and sensors to solve creative team challenges. Note: programming is not the primary focus of this class — students will be troubleshooting robotic behaviors with hands-on engineering activities, with the opportunity to code new behaviors later in the session.

OUTDOOR ART: ART IN THE NATURAL WORLD (FULL)

Grades: K-2
Time: Wednesdays 2:00-3:50pm
Dates: April 12 – June 7
Cost: $140.70

Students explore ways to capture nature in their art, and learn about art concepts that exist in nature: symmetry, pattern, color, texture, and more. Students will take home a kit of art supplies at the end of the session.

HIP HOP KIDS DANCE FITNESS (FULL)

Grades: K-4
Time: Fridays 3:45-4:45pm
Dates: April 7 – June 2
Cost: $159.60

This class from Seattle Dance Fitness features kid-friendly routines based on original hip hop and pop choreography. We lead the kids through fun follow-along dance fitness songs, break down the steps, play dance games, and have plenty of time to FREE dance with scarves, hula hoops, and more. Think of this class as a weekly DANCE PARTY! No dance experience necessary.

DANDYLYON DRAMA OPENING ACT: UNDER THE SEA

Grades: K-2
Time: Tuesdays 3:35-5:05pm
Dates: April 4 – May 16
Cost: $74.55

Come sing, act, and dance in a supportive ensemble presentation of “Under the Sea” from Disney’s The Little Mermaid. Professional teaching artists from Dandylyon Drama will share healthy vocal techniques, fun acting games, and a choreographed dance.

Students will perform this song in costume as an opening act for Dandylyon Drama’s MainStage musical production of The Little Mermaid, Jr. at Shoreline Community College Theater. Students will also get to perform for the whole school at a special Highland Terrace school assembly.

Students will also get to perform for the whole school at a special Highland Terrace school assembly.
