We need many new faces for the 2018-2019 school year. The positions vary, overseeing different activities and some requiring more/less time commitment, as well as during different times of the school year. Find a role that fit with your interests and availability! We have a strong board comprised of parents who are experienced with the PTA – they’re happy to help you in any role you choose. Many of our positions can be shared with another person (ie Co-Chairs), and others are seeking a “shadow” to learn the ropes this year, then take over the following year. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to join. Our school has many fun activities, but requires parent led help.

Director of Public Affairs: Co-Chairs. Assures the communication channels of PTA functions appropriately and effectively, and coordinates the committees that impact events and activities involving the community. Oversees the Chairs for Pancake Breakfast, student directory, PALS, Room Parents/Staff Appreciation, Family and Community Services, Volunteer Landscaping, Emergency Preparedness, Healthy Lifestyles, and makes recommendations for improvements to Executive Committee. | Reflections Competition – National PTA’s annual arts in education program: Facilitates the competition at Highland Terrace. Informs staff and encourages student participation, organizes volunteer help. Collects entries and finds volunteer judges, organizes a school exhibit of winning entries and forwards these to the District and State levels. If Reflections Workshops are conducted during the half days, this would also be organized by the Reflections Chair.
Spring Art Walk and Auction: Co-Chairs. This Chair is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the Spring Event. This includes finding coordinators for classroom art project for the auction; finding community donors for the auction; finding volunteers to staff the auction; overseeing a decorations chair; finding an art activities chair; and advertising heavily in the PTA Newsletter. Volunteers on the day of the event are critical for set up, running the activities, and clean up. PTA Student Directory: A desktop publishing home project, the Highland Terrace student phone/email directory is assembled and printed in the fall. Parent permission forms, plus letters to Highland Terrace families and the local business community selling advertising space, are sent out with the first day packets. Pancake Breakfast: Co-Chairs. Plans and executes PTA’s annual Pancake Breakfast. This event requires many hands doing much work. In addition to an overall coordinator, there should be a Kitchen Manager, a ticket sales person, a procurement person, and a Volunteer Coordinator. This Chair should plan to advertise in the PTA Newsletter and in the community; volunteers are required for all parts of this morning. Set up starts the Friday before, and the Chair will remain on site until the afternoon on Saturday. Lego: This Chair coordinates with the Lego Robotics and helps to ensure that children are registering, attending, and paying for the class. This program requires a large advertising effort a few times a year, utilizing flyers, a display board, and the newsletter. |
