DESCRIPTION:Teacher Appreciation Week is May 6–10. Below are ideas for celebrating all of our wonderful HT educators throughout the week. Look for an email from your room parent for specific ideas and suggestions for your student’s classroom teacher. \nMonday May 6: Parent Thank You Day\nSend a personal note about something you appreciate about your teachers and what they have accomplished with your student. \nTuesday May 7: Flower Day\nSend your student to school with a flower (real or handmade) to give to teacher(s). They will all be put in a vase and will make a beautiful bouquet to have for the rest of the week. \nWednesday May 8: Gift Card Day\nSend a physical gift card of any size to school with your student or email a virtual gift card. Many room parents are pooling funds to put together a class gift for this day–check the email from your room parent for details. \nThursday May 9: Student Thank You Day\nHave your student write a Thank You note to their teacher(s) and send them to school with your child.  What is their favorite part of class? How does their teacher help them best? \nFriday May 10: Special Treat Day\nBring your teacher’s favorite treats to class.

DESCRIPTION:The Scholastic Book Fair kicks off on February 3 during the Pancake Breakfast and runs through February 7. Come shop and support our school library–50% of sales goes to the HT library for new books and materials (note: the book fair is not a PTA fundraiser). \nBook Fair schedule:\nSaturday 2/3 \n\n7:45am – 11am:  Official kickoff during Pancake Breakfast\n\nMonday-Wednesday 2/5-2/7 \n\n11am-12:30pm: Students can shop during lunch recess\n3:35pm-4pm: After school shopping w/ a family member\n\nIf your student plans to shop during lunch recess\, consider setting up an eWallet so they don’t have to carry cash. DESCRIPTION:HT and HT PTA are excited to announce a special presentation on Emotional Regulation with Frances Coppa\, an ADHD/Executive Functioning Educator and Coach. Frances works with students\, teachers\, and families to develop positive strength based supports for common parenting issues. \nFrances will address questions like: \n\nWhat can I do to make mornings less chaotic?\nWhat do I do when my child has an emotional meltdown?\nWhy does my child have big reactions to small problems and what can I do to support them?\nHow can I help my child manage their emotions?\n\nThis presentation takes place during Movie Night. HT students ages 5-12 are invited to attend the movie Trolls in the gym while their guardians attend the presentation in the library. Students younger than 5 will need an adult present for supervision. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a free showing of Trolls Band Together in the Highland Terrace gym. Doors open at 6:15pm\, movie begins at 6:30pm. \nPajamas welcome! Bring your favorite stuffy\, water bottle\, camping chairs\, blankets\, pillows\, etc. Gym mats will be available to sit on. PTA will be serving popcorn! \nDuring the movie\, there will also be an adult education presentation on Emotional Regulation with guest speaker Frances Coppa in the library. By framing HiCap needs in the broader context of neurodiversity\, we’ll consider the social-emotional characteristics of HiCap learners\, ranging from social development\, perfectionism\, and twice exceptionality to grit and executive function difficulties\, as well as the recent neuroscience that is helping explain where these characteristics may be originating. \nAustina De Bonte is a consultant\, speaker\, and advocate for gifted and 2E students with Smart is not Easy. She is President of the WA Coalition for Gifted Education and a member of the WA State HiCap Advisory Board.
